History of West Somerset Company of Archers

Our club was formed in 1955. The very first arrow was shot by Bert Oram, a champion archer based in Somerset, and who was the reigning English Champion.

What we do here at West Somerset Company of Archers

We are a very friendly club and always welcome new members. We shoot most disciplines of archery, including longbow, recurve, and compound bows.
Shooting all distances up to 100 yards, our outdoor range is on the sports field in the beautiful setting of Wootten Courtenay.

Taster and Beginners Courses at West Somerset Company of Archers

We run a number of tasters and beginners courses throughout the year. This gives potential new members a chance to see what we provide, to try archery and check out our facilities, and to see if our club is what they are looking for.

Beginners are loaned all necessary equipment and coaching is provided.

After the taster session you can if you wish book a beginners course.

Archery is a sport enjoyed by people of all ages. You do not need any previous experience to take part in a beginner's course.

The cost of the course is £30 for seniors and £12.50 for juniors under 18.

Please note we do not coach juniors under 9. Each course normally consists of six two-hour sessions. After completing the course you may join the club if you wish.
