If you've ever wanted to try archery in Somerset, there's still time to take aim and discover this exciting sport at the West Somerset Company of Archers' final Have a Go Day of the summer.

The club has already welcomed dozens of aspiring archers at two popular local events – the Porlock Country Fair and the Brompton Regis Horse Show and Gymkhana. Friendly Inter-Club Shoot with Danesfield

2026 West Somerset Company of Archers and Bowmen of Danesfield Inter-club Shoot

On a phenomenally sunny Bank Holiday Sunday - 24th May 2026, West Somerset Company of Archers hosted another Somerset based archery club - the Bowmen of Danesfield for a fun inter-club competition.

Archers from both clubs took part using a range of bow styles, with compound, barebow, longbow and recurve all being used.

It was a great day shooting a "Windsor" across a range of distances - which meant six ends (36 arrows) across either 60/50/40 yards, 50/40/30 yards or 30/20/10 yards.

There was also a delicious BBQ provided for the occasion.

A trophy was awarded to Bowmen of Danesfield as overall they had a higher average score across all their team. Additionally, Bowmen of Danesfield members Rob Smith, Ewan Cotterell, Barry Iles and Linda Sharp were all recognised for their highest scores in their individual categories.

Hopefully this can become an annual event between the two Somerset archery clubs.

Bowmen of Danesfield are an archery club based in the Williton area close to the Quantock Hills. Find their website here.

Welcome to Black Sheep Harmony

Helping More People Try Archery!

Black Sheep Harmony are a dynamic female A Cappella Vocal Group based in Bristol, and as part of their weekend visit to Somerset, a couple of their group who are already archers, wanted to give archery try. We were happy to help, and the range was set aside for around 20 members of Black Sheep Harmony to try archery on a Sunday morning in September.

After their shoot, they treated us to a fantastic rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody, take a look below
